2002 Infiniti Q45 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A restaurant owner near Silver Strand had been fighting his 2002 Q45 ignition for weeks before his valet mentioned me.
He'd been wiggling the key, forcing it, sometimes sitting there for a full minute before it would turn. The fob still locked and unlocked the doors fine, so he knew the remote wasn't the issue. He'd taken it to the dealer and they quoted him a new ignition cylinder, a new key, and reprogramming. He was two days from scheduling it when I got the call.
When I looked at the cylinder, the problem was worn internal wafers, not a dead lock. That kind of wear is common on older Infiniti ignitions, especially on a daily driver that sees a heavy keychain. The cylinder itself was still good. I decoded the lock, replaced the worn wafers, and cut a fresh key blade matched to the repaired cylinder. His original remote re-registered cleanly through the OBD port.
I pulled the old wafers out and set them on the hood so he could see the damage himself. He appreciated that.
The ignition turns smooth now. The key slides in the first time, every time. He didn't pay to replace a cylinder that didn't need replacing, and he didn't lose the car to a service bay for three days.
