1998 Infiniti Q45
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

1998 Infiniti Q45 Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman near Pacific View who had been driving her 1998 Q45 on a single key for two years. She knew it was a bad idea.

Then one afternoon she came out to her car and the key just would not start it. The engine would crank, catch for a half second, and die. Classic immobilizer behavior - the car sees the blade, turns over, then cuts fuel when it does not recognize the chip.

She had already called the Infiniti dealer. They told her the car would need to be towed in, and she should expect a wait for parts and a bill that made her put the phone down.

I pulled up to her driveway with the blank that fits the Q45 for that generation, my cutter, and the programmer. We pulled the VIN from the door jamb, confirmed ownership, and I got to work. Cut the blade, registered the new key to the immobilizer. The crank-and-die was gone. She turned the key three times in a row just to be sure, like she was waiting for it to change its mind.

The dealer tow alone would have cost her before they even looked at the car. She skipped all of that and had a working key in her own hand before lunch.
