2007 Nissan Quest
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to my location in Lang Ranch?

I give you an honest window when you call, not a four-hour estimate. Being mobile and already out on the road in the Thousand Oaks area means I'm usually faster than arranging a tow. Nissan dealers need an appointment, a dispatcher, and a certified tech with the right access -- and as Quest owners have found out, that appointment might be two days away when you're standing next to a locked van right now.

Q: Can I get a key made the same day I call?

In most cases, yes. I carry blanks and programming equipment for Nissan vehicles in the service van, and the 2007 Quest remote head key is a common enough job that I stock for it. If you're in Lang Ranch or nearby in Thousand Oaks and the schedule lines up, I can cut, program, and test a working key the same day. Dealer service departments typically treat this as a parts-on-order situation.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can I program it myself or do I need a tech?

You'll need a tech. The 2007 Quest does not have an owner-accessible button sequence or ignition-turn relearn for the remote head key. Programming goes through the OBD port with a professional scan tool that can communicate with the vehicle security system.

Q: My Quest starts fine but the remote buttons stopped working entirely. Is the fob dead or is something wrong with the van?

Start with the CR1616 battery. That cell is small and loses voltage quietly, and a low battery can kill the remote signal while the transponder side still does its job at the ignition. If a fresh CR1616 doesn't bring the buttons back, the next thing to check is whether the fob took any impact or moisture. The internal circuit board on these remote head units can crack if the fob has been dropped or sat in a damp pocket.

2007 Nissan Quest Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

He'd parked at the Camarillo airport, flown out for a consulting trip, and come back to a Quest that wouldn't respond to anything. No door unlock, no response from the fob, nothing. The emergency blade was tucked in his laptop bag. His laptop bag was in the back of the van. The van was locked.

He called the Nissan dealer first. Thursday was the earliest they could see him. It was Tuesday morning and he was standing in a parking structure with two roller bags.

A tow company quoted him a number he didn't like. Then he found me.

I drove out to him from Thousand Oaks, got the door open mechanically, and pulled up the key status on my scan tool through the OBD port. His key was still enrolled. The car hadn't forgotten it. The remote head fob was just dead from a flat CR1616, and with no signal getting through, the push-to-start couldn't see the key at all.

Battery swap, quick function test on all four buttons, confirmed the car started normally. He was off the structure and on the freeway inside an hour of calling me.

The dealer comment came up while I was packing my bag. He mentioned the Thursday appointment and said something like, "I figured that wasn't going to work anyway." It wasn't really about the price. He just needed to get home.

How long does a 2007 Nissan Quest key replacement take?▼

For a remote head key on this van, plan on 30 to 45 minutes once I'm at the vehicle. That covers cutting the blade to your car, programming the new fob through the OBD port, and walking through every button plus a confirmed start before I leave. All-keys-lost jobs take a little longer because the system has to be cleared before the new key is registered. That can add time depending on how the security module responds.
