Got a call from a smog check station over in the Avenue neighborhood in Ventura. A guy brought his 2016 Quest in for a smog test, but the car would not start. Another locksmith had attempted an all-keys-lost job on it earlier that day, the car battery sagged mid-programming, and the NATS immobilizer locked into a fault state. The other tech packed up and left.
When I got there, the security indicator on the dash was blinking steady, which on these RE52 Quests means the BCM lost its handshake with the ECU during the security registration. Power interruption mid-write will do that every time.
I clamped my jump pack to the battery posts first. Non-negotiable step. Stable 12.6 volts before I touch anything else. Cleared the stored fault codes with my IM608, got the BCM back to a clean slate, then ran a fresh Intelligent Key registration. His CWTWB1U789, the 6-button proximity fob with the sliding door buttons, learned on the first attempt.
Tested everything on the spot. Proximity unlock on both front handles, push-button start, both power sliding doors from the fob, liftgate, lock, panic. All six buttons. Walked the smog shop through what went wrong so they would recognize a mid-programming battery sag if they ever saw it again.
Job took about an hour and a half, which is longer than a normal key-add. But the alternative was a flatbed to the dealer and a wait measured in days, not minutes.
