Over near Pacific View Mall in Ventura, a guy had just loaded a full grocery run into his 2014 Quest. July heat. The frozen stuff was on borrowed time.
He hit the fob to start the car. Nothing. Tried the door handles, no touch unlock. He could see his groceries through the glass, bags tipping over in the cargo area. He called the dealer. Next available appointment was the following afternoon. That wasn't going to work for a trunk full of ice cream.
I was about fifteen minutes out. Got the door open with the hidden mechanical key slot on the driver's handle, then plugged my IM608 into the OBD port under the dash. His original CWTWB1U789 fob was toast. The CR2032 wasn't just dead; the negative battery contact inside the fob casing had corroded enough to lose continuity even with a fresh cell. Green buildup right on the spring clip. That's why the backup start procedure didn't work when he held the fob against the start button. The internal transponder antenna contact wasn't making a clean connection either.
Full replacement. New fob, programmed through OBD using the NATS6 pin code pulled from the BCM, emergency mechanical key cut to match. Tested lock, unlock, both sliding doors, the hatch, panic, and remote start range out to about forty feet in the parking lot.
Phone call to engine running: 38 minutes. His groceries made it home frozen.
