2014 Nissan Quest
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long will a replacement key last?

A properly programmed replacement should last as long as your original. The programming doesn't degrade over time. What actually fails on these fobs is the CR2032 battery or the battery contacts. Quest owners on Nissan forums specifically mention the contacts going slightly corroded after a few years, which causes intermittent range loss that feels like a dying fob but is really just a contact issue.

Q: What if the new key stops working after a few weeks?

Call us. Every key we make is covered. We come back and sort it out. The specific scenario Quest owners run into is a key-not-detected warning on the dash even when lock and unlock still work fine. Those two systems talk to the vehicle differently, so one can go quiet while the other stays active.

Q: I have a 2014 Quest and one sliding door isn't responding to the fob. Is that a key problem?

Probably not the fob. The 2014 Quest has power sliding doors with their own control system, and the fob just sends a signal. If one door ignores the fob but the other responds, the fob is almost certainly fine. What you're looking at is either the door's motor, its latch assembly, or a sensor that's not registering the command.

Q: Can I program a second fob myself so my spouse has a spare?

No self-programming sequence exists for the 2014 Quest's Intelligent Key system. There's no ignition-turn cycle or button combination that adds a new fob. Registration requires a diagnostic tool connected to the OBD port. That's true whether you're adding a spare or replacing a lost key entirely. If you bought a second fob online expecting a DIY setup, you still need someone with the right equipment to pair it.

2014 Nissan Quest Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

It was a July afternoon over in the College area of Ventura. Guy calls me from a grocery store parking lot. Frozen food in the back, elderly customer, Quest sitting ten feet away and completely locked up. He'd already called the dealer. Next available appointment was the following morning. I told him I was about 15 minutes out.

When I got there he was standing in the shade near the cart return, holding a dead fob and looking at the rear of the van. He'd already tried the backup start procedure but the fob was so far gone the button didn't register anything.

I popped the concealed door lock cover, got us in with the emergency blade, then took a look at the fob. The CR2032 was completely flat and the battery contact had a slight corrosion spot that had been quietly killing range for a while before it gave out entirely. At that point we were past a simple battery swap. I set him up with a properly matched replacement fob, programmed it through the OBD port, and walked all six buttons plus the sliding doors and the ignition start to confirm everything was talking to the vehicle correctly.

From his phone call to him driving away with cold groceries still cold was 38 minutes. The dealer's quote was a full day away and a lot heavier on the wallet. He didn't say much when it was done. Just loaded his bags and nodded. That was enough.

Nissan Quest Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do you use OEM or aftermarket keys on Nissan vehicles?▼

We use OEM-spec fobs verified for the specific vehicle. On the 2014 Quest's Intelligent Key system, this matters more than people expect. The fob has to match the factory FCC ID on file for your car, and the transponder chip inside has to be the right type for the immobilizer to accept programming. Cheap blanks sourced from generic online listings often look identical on the outside but fail during registration or drop off the system within weeks.
