1995 Buick Lesabre
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: What exactly is involved in getting a replacement key made for this car?

It's a key cut to your vehicle, full stop. We either pull the key code on file for your VIN or decode one of your locks directly and cut a new key from that. No computer, no OBD port, no programming. The 1995 LeSabre ignition reads the cut of the blade, and that's it. Show up with your vehicle and proof of ownership and we handle the rest on site.

Q: What if my key broke off inside the ignition?

That's a two-part job. First, extract the broken piece without pushing it deeper into the cylinder. Second, inspect the wafers inside. On a 30-year-old LeSabre, the ignition cylinder has probably seen a lot of use, and a key snapping inside often means the cylinder was already worn or the key was already weak from previous copying.

Q: Can I get a replacement key made if I have no working keys left at all?

Yes, and it's not complicated on this vehicle. With no working keys, we go straight to decoding the lock, either the door lock or the ignition cylinder, to get the correct cut. From there a new key gets cut on the spot. All-keys-lost on a mid-90s LeSabre is a routine job, not an emergency situation requiring a dealer or a tow.

Q: My ignition feels stiff and the key is hard to turn. Do I need a new ignition or just a better key?

On a 1995 LeSabre, that stiffness is almost always one of three things: a worn key that's fighting the wafers, a worn cylinder where the wafers have shifted, or both. Start with a correctly cut key from code or a decoded lock rather than from a worn copy. If a proper key still binds, the cylinder itself needs attention. These ignition cylinders are serviceable and replaceable, and I carry common ones on the van.

1995 Buick Lesabre Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from a guy in West Simi Valley, off to the west side of town near the newer subdivisions. He had a 1995 LeSabre that he'd been driving for years with a copy of a copy of a key. The thing worked most of the time, which is almost worse than not working at all, because "most of the time" means you're never sure which time it won't.

He'd had two different copies made at hardware stores over the years, each one traced from the last. By the time I looked at his key, the cuts were soft and the edges were rounded in a way that told me everything I needed to know. The blank was right, but the depths were a generation of drift removed from what the cylinder actually wanted.

I pulled the key code through a decoder on the door lock cylinder, confirmed the correct depth and spacing, and cut a fresh key from scratch on the proper blank. Turned it over to him right there in the driveway.

He said it felt different immediately. Smoother. Turned without that little hesitation he'd gotten used to ignoring. That hesitation had just become background noise to him.

He mentioned the dealer wanted him to leave the car for a day. I was done in about twenty minutes.

Buick Lesabre Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How many buttons does the 1995 Buick LeSabre key have?▼

None. The 1995 LeSabre uses a plain metal key with no remote and no buttons. If you've seen a separate key fob for this era of LeSabre, that would have been an optional add-on accessory, not something built into the key itself. The key that starts your car is just a cut metal blade.
