2001 Buick Lesabre
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2001 Buick Lesabre Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A call came in from a guy parked on a dead-end street in Wagon Wheel, Oxnard. The street ran straight into a trailhead, no turnaround, no room for a flatbed.

His 2001 LeSabre sat there not starting, and the dealer he called told him to arrange a tow first and then schedule an appointment. He had no idea how to get a tow truck to a street that a tow truck couldn't navigate.

I parked at the mouth of the street and walked in with my bag and the key blank I already knew I needed for this year. That is the part people don't think about: showing up with the right blank already in hand instead of ordering it after the fact.

I decoded the existing door lock to get the cut, made the key blade, and then connected to the OBD port and ran the transponder enrollment through the immobilizer. The system accepted it on the first pass, which is always a good sign on a car with a healthy battery.

He turned the key, it fired, and he drove it out of that dead end under his own power. He mentioned the dealer quote on the way out, almost as an aside. It was a lot more than what he paid me, and it didn't include getting to a shop he had no way to reach.
