I was parked off Wooley Road in the Wilson area of Oxnard when the call came in. A woman had driven her 2000 LeSabre to a big-box store and come out to a key that would not cooperate. It would turn, the engine would crank, and then it would die. Crank, die. Every time.

She held it there for a few seconds like she was waiting for it to change its mind, then looked up and said nothing, which is the best kind of reaction.

She ended up getting a spare cut at the same time, which is always the smarter play. The dealer quote she had gotten the week before, for a single replacement, was a good chunk more than what she paid me that afternoon.
