2007 Chevrolet Aveo Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call from the Pleasant Valley area in Oxnard. A woman had one key left for her 2007 Chevrolet Aveo, and the plastic bow had cracked almost in half. She was holding it together with electrical tape and knew it was a matter of days before the blade separated from the head and she'd be stuck somewhere.

She called a Chevy dealer first. They told her to bring the car in, leave it for the day, and they'd cut a new key and program the transponder. She asked if she could wait. They said probably not, the key had to be ordered.

I met her in her driveway after work. The Aveo runs GM's Passlock-adjacent system with a Megamos ID13 transponder chip in the key head. No remote, no buttons, just a mechanical key with an embedded chip that talks to the immobilizer ring around the ignition cylinder.

I pulled the key data through the OBD-II port, cloned the ID13 chip onto a new DWO4RAP blank, and cut the blade in the van. Tested it: clean start, theft deterrent light cycled off like it should. Then I tested her old taped-up key to make sure it still worked too, so she'd have a backup.

She turned the new key over in her hand a couple of times, like she was checking if it was really finished. It was. About twenty minutes, done on site, for a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
