2009 Chevrolet Aveo
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2009 Chevrolet Aveo Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A woman parked near the transit center in Downtown Oxnard had been using a cracked, taped-together remote head key for months.

The plastic housing was split at the seam, one of the buttons had stopped clicking, and she was jamming the blade into the ignition with two fingers every morning just to get it seated right. She figured it still worked, so why deal with it. Then one day it did not work.

She called me because the dealer had quoted her a number that made her laugh out loud and then stop laughing when she realized they were serious. She told me she just needed a key, not a new car.

I drove out to where she was and got to work at the vehicle. The remote head key on the Aveo is a combined unit, so cutting the blade and programming the fob side happen together as one job. I pulled the security data through the OBD port, enrolled the new key to the immobilizer, and verified every button on the fob before I handed it over. Then I watched her turn the ignition twice just to feel it catch cleanly.

She said it was the first time in months the key had gone in without a fight. Took about 25 minutes, done at her car, no tow, no waiting room. The dealer comparison came up again at the end and I just said what I always say: the tools are the same, the address is different.
