2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Mountain Meadows in Moorpark is the kind of neighborhood where people park in long driveways, so I pulled in behind a silver 2007 Monte Carlo and had room to work without blocking anything. The owner had one key left, and it had started acting up.
Some mornings it fired right up. Other times the security light would flicker and the car would die almost immediately after cranking. She had been babying it for about two weeks.
That pattern told me the transponder was reading inconsistently. Could be a worn key head with a hairline crack around the chip, could be the transponder losing contact inside the housing. Either way, the existing key was on borrowed time.
I decoded her lock, cut a fresh key blade to match, then connected to the OBD port and read the vehicle security data. Enrolled the new key, ran the learn sequence, and let the security timer do its thing. First start, security light came on and the car died. Exactly what happens when a new key is not yet learned. I let the process finish, tried again, and it fired clean and held idle. I did that two more times before I said a word.
She asked if the old key would still work. I told her it would, but I would not trust it as a daily driver anymore, not with that intermittent behavior. She kept it as a backup.
The whole job was done in her driveway. She did not haul it anywhere.
