Got a call from a woman near St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. She had a 2000 Chevrolet S-10 and zero working keys. Lost the only one she had somewhere between the parking lot and the front entrance. Already called the Chevy dealer and they told her the truck would need to be towed in, that they would have to pull the lock cylinder, order a key by the VIN, and it might take a few days. I got there in about 40 minutes. The 2000 S-10 runs a simple mechanical key, no transponder, no remote buttons, nothing electronic in the key itself. I used my B102 Lishi pick and decoder right on the driver door, read the cuts, and hand-cut a fresh key on my mobile machine in the van.
Turned the ignition. The truck started, then stalled after about two seconds and the SECURITY light came on. Classic Passlock behavior. The Passlock sensor lives inside the steering column lock cylinder and reads a resistor value when the key turns. If the system gets confused, it kills fuel. I ran the 10-minute relearn: key to ON, wait for SECURITY to go off, cycle it three times, then start. Fired right up.
She drove home that afternoon. No tow, no waiting days for a dealer appointment.
