I got a call from a guy parked near Coast Village in Montecito, right off the main drag. He had his 2012 Challenger sitting in a lot and the fob had been getting flaky for a week. Range was down to about three feet, the lock button was inconsistent, and that morning the car threw a key-not-detected warning when he sat down and tried to start it. I straightened the clip, seated a fresh battery correctly, and snapped it back together.
Then I walked every button. Lock, unlock, and all five, twice from across the lot. The warning cleared, range came back to a normal distance, start worked clean.
He had already called the dealer before he called me. They told him to bring it in and plan on leaving it. Between the diagnostic fee, the part, and the programming labor, he was looking at spending real money and losing the car for at least a day or two. He saved a good chunk by calling a mobile tech first, and the whole thing was done before he finished his coffee.
