A guy near Heritage Valley Tourism Bureau in Fillmore called me about his 2019 Challenger R/T. Said he walked out of a barbershop, hit the start button, and got "Key Fob Not Detected" on the dash. He had already watched one of my Dodge key replacement videos on YouTube, recognized the process, and had my number saved.
When I got there he was sitting in the driver seat holding the fob against the start button like the manual tells you to do for a dead battery backup start. It worked, but the passive entry on all four doors was gone and the remote start button did nothing.
I popped the fob open on my tailgate. The CR2032 looked fine, but one of the battery clip contacts was bent just enough to lose connection intermittently. Classic. I straightened the clip, cleaned both contact points, and seated a fresh CR2032.
Then I tested it the slow way. Walk-up passive unlock on the driver door, passenger door, trunk release, remote start from across the lot, and three clean push-button starts with the fob in different spots inside the cabin. All five buttons on the M3M-40821302 responded clean.
He thought he needed a full replacement fob and a trip to the dealer. He did not. He needed about ten minutes and someone who actually looks at the contacts before jumping to a new part.
