On 2018 and newer models there's a secure gateway layer in the vehicle network, so the equipment has to be credentialed to get through it. That's not a DIY job and it's not a generic code-reader job either.

I come to wherever the Challenger is sitting in the Fillmore area, including North Fillmore, and do the whole thing on site. No tow, no appointment, no waiting for parts to arrive at a service counter. The car leaves driveable with a working key.

Do I need to tow my Challenger to the dealer if I have no working keys?

The 2019 model year sits in a generation that requires gateway authorization before any key work can happen, so there's a sequence involved: authenticate through the vehicle network, extract the PIN, clear the key memory, program the new fob, verify all buttons and start function. Dealer route, by comparison, usually means towing the car in first, then waiting for an opening in their schedule. Owners on forums have reported waiting over a week just to get the vehicle looked at, and that's before parts are even ordered. The mobile route is faster start to finish and the car never leaves.

I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it, or do I need to buy one from you?

This comes up a lot with the 2019 Challenger. The short answer: it depends on whether the fob you bought matches the factory FCC ID on your original. If it does, I can program it. If it's a generic aftermarket unit with a different identifier, it may not pair correctly with your vehicle's security system, and you'd be out whatever you paid for it.

Check the FCC ID printed on the back of the fob you received and compare it to what's on your original. If they match and the fob is otherwise identical, bring it and I'll try to program it. I'll tell you upfront whether it looks right before I start the job. I don't guarantee aftermarket fobs I didn't supply, but I won't charge you to find out it won't work.

My Challenger fob works fine for locking and unlocking but the vehicle won't start sometimes. Are those related?

Not necessarily. The keyless entry side and the start authorization side of the smart key system function somewhat independently. If the doors are responding normally but the start system is throwing a warning or hesitating, the issue could be with the start button area, the antenna that reads the fob at the dash, or the immobilizer side of the system rather than the fob itself.

One thing to try first: hold the fob directly against the start button and attempt the start. Some Challenger owners have found that when the fob battery is getting low but not totally dead, the lock and unlock range stays acceptable while the start-range detection goes first. A fresh CR2032 seated correctly has resolved this for several people before any other diagnosis was needed. If a new battery doesn't change anything, that's when it needs a closer look at the antenna and the vehicle security system.
