2020 Dodge Challenger Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy came off the beach access in Hollywood Beach, Oxnard, carrying a wetsuit over his shoulder and his phone already out. He had a 2020 Challenger and his fob had gotten knocked off the seat into a cup holder puddle.

Not submerged, just a splash, but enough. The fob would lock the doors if he stood close. Wouldn't unlock. Wouldn't wake the push-button start reliably. He'd already tried a new CR2032.

He asked me if he needed a whole new fob programmed or if the board inside was cooked.

I popped the fob open right there on the trunk lid. The CR2032 tray had surface corrosion from the moisture, and one of the board contacts had a faint green tint. Cleaned the contacts, reseated the battery, and tested every button while walking the car. Lock, unlock, and the other three buttons all came back. Start button recognized the fob immediately.

That was it. No new fob, no programming session, no tow to the dealer.

He asked what the dealer would have done. I told him honestly they'd probably have sold him a new fob and a programming appointment, because that's the path of least resistance when someone walks in off the street describing intermittent behavior.
