She was at a place near the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden when her purse got taken off the back of her chair. Keys, wallet, phone, all of it. She borrowed a phone and called the police, then her husband, then me.
Her 2003 Ford Excursion was sitting in the lot with zero keys. Her husband called the dealer and got the rundown: order a key, wait three to five business days, tow the truck in, and they recommended rekeying the locks since the stolen key could still physically open the doors. Way more than she wanted to deal with that night.
I got there that evening. All-keys-lost on a PATS vehicle is a different job than adding a spare. Adding a key means the system already trusts an existing key. AKL means I wipe the entire key memory in the PATS transceiver module and start from nothing. I used my IM608 to access the PCM through the OBD-II port, cleared old key IDs, and programmed two fresh H72-PT transponder keys with 4C chips. Decoded the door with my Lishi FO38, cut both keys on site.
The stolen key can still physically turn the lock cylinder, but the immobilizer will kill the fuel injectors the moment it reads the wrong transponder. Engine cranks, does not start. Dead to the car.
She drove home that night while the police report was still processing.
