A tenant at an apartment complex in Downtown Santa Barbara called me about her 2005 Ford Excursion. She had bought it used a few years back with one key, always figured she would get around to copying it, and never did. Then one morning she went to unlock the door and the blade snapped at the pivot. Half the key was in her hand. The other half was stuck inside the door lock.

That saved time and kept the job simpler.
I cut two new keys, moved the original chip into one new shell, and programmed a second chip to the vehicle as a backup. Tested both keys in the ignition and the locks before I packed up.
She had gone from zero working keys to two, standing in a parking structure, in under an hour. The dealer quote she had gotten on the phone was significantly more, and that was just for one key with no guarantee they could get it done same day. Having the original chip intact made a real difference on the price and the timeline.
