Got a call from a guy stuck near Arroyo Burro Beach in Santa Barbara. His 2004 Ford Excursion, the 6.0L diesel, key blade snapped clean inside the ignition cylinder. Half the blade still in there, half in his hand.
He had already talked to another locksmith who told him the whole ignition cylinder needed to be drilled out and swapped. New cylinder, new keys, hours of wait time.
I drove out and took a look. The break was mid-blade, and the front half was seated deep in the wafer pack. I slid my Lishi H75 2-in-1 into the cylinder alongside the fragment, felt each wafer, and worked the broken piece out without scoring anything inside. Took maybe four minutes.
Once it was clear, I decoded all ten wafer positions directly from the lock. That gave me the exact bitting, no original key needed. Cut a fresh H72-PT blank on my mobile machine, then programmed the 4D/63 transponder through the OBD-II port using the PATS security access code pulled from the PCM.
Turned over on the first try. The big diesel lit right up.
His ignition cylinder is still the factory original. His doors still match. One key, one visit, done on the shoulder of the road while the afternoon fog was rolling in off Hendry's Beach.
