2017 Ford F-350 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over near Dos Vientos Community Park in Thousand Oaks, a guy with a 2017 F-350 Lariat called me after another locksmith left mid-job. The story was familiar: all-keys-lost smart key replacement, the other tech started programming, and the truck's battery sagged during the security handshake. The BCM threw a fault, the "No Key Detected" message locked in, and that was the end of the other guy's visit.
The mechanic shop where the truck was sitting called me next.
First thing I did was clamp my jump pack to the battery terminals. Voltage was sitting at 11.4, which explains everything. The PATS security handshake on these Super Duty trucks is picky about voltage. Drop below 12.0 during the learn procedure and the BCM can latch a security DTC and refuse to talk.
I cleared the stored faults with my IM608, confirmed the BCM was responding clean, and ran a fresh all-keys-lost procedure from scratch. The new 164-R8149 fob, five-button with remote start, learned on the first cycle. Walked the truck after that. Checked proximity detection at every door handle, tailgate, the push-button start, and the backup slot in the center console where you hold the dead fob against the column if the battery dies.
Took about an hour and a half because of the cleanup from the first attempt. Normally it is closer to 45 minutes. The shop guys watched the whole thing. I showed them the voltage issue so they could flag it for other customers. Saved the owner a flatbed ride and a multi-day wait at the dealer for a fraction of what Ford would have charged.
