A construction foreman out of the Newbury Park side of Thousand Oaks called me just before 7am. His crew was already on site. He was standing next to his 2018 F-350 in the dark, jabbing the fob at the door, getting nothing back.
Push-button wouldn't respond. Door handles weren't detecting the fob at all. He'd already tried holding the fob up to the start button the way you do when the battery is low, and even that wasn't waking it up. His foreman was blowing up his phone.
I rolled out of my home base and was in Newbury Park in under 25 minutes. Opened the door mechanically with the insert key, no drama. Popped the fob open on the hood. The CR2450 inside was original, still had voltage on a meter but was sitting slightly cocked in the tray, one contact barely kissing the terminal. Classic install issue, not a dead battery.
Reseated it, cleaned both contact points, closed the fob back up. Truck woke right up. I still connected through the OBD port and ran the fob through a full function check, all five buttons, both door handle sensors, push-button start, the whole loop. Everything read clean. No stored security faults.
He was clocked in by 7:20. The dealer would have meant a tow, a service appointment, and probably losing the whole day. He paid a fraction of that and didn't miss a shift.
