2002 Ford Windstar
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How fast can you get to my location in Midtown Ventura?

Most calls in the Midtown Ventura area get a response within 30 minutes. When you call, give me the year, make, and model so I can confirm I have the right blank loaded before I leave. Ford owners going the dealer route on a 2002 Windstar are often looking at an appointment several weeks out, plus a tow if the car won't start. I treat every call as same-day.

Q: Can I get a key made today, or do I have to order a part?

Same day. I carry blanks and programming equipment for the Windstar on every call. No ordering, no waiting on a shipment, no two-trip process. The dealer model is often: come in, find out the blank needs to be ordered, come back in a week or two. I've heard from Windstar owners who waited a month or more on a promised spare that kept getting pushed back.

Q: My Windstar starts and drives fine but the remote buttons stopped working. Do I need a whole new key?

Not necessarily. The remote head key on the 2002 Windstar runs on a CR2032 battery, and a dead or weak cell is the first thing to check. Pop the back of the fob, swap in a fresh CR2032, and test all three buttons from a reasonable distance. If lock and unlock come back, you're done.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it, or is it more complicated than that?

Depends on what you bought. The factory FCC ID on the original Windstar fob matters. A fob with a different FCC ID may not be compatible with your receiver module, and programming it won't make it work regardless of what the seller claimed. If the fob matches the correct ID for this vehicle, then yes, I can program it. Bring the fob and the car to your location in Midtown Ventura and I'll handle the rest.

2002 Ford Windstar Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

In Midtown Ventura, a guy texted me from a parking lot off Main Street. He had been running errands, set his Windstar key on the roof while loading bags into the sliding door, and that was the last time he saw it.

No spare. He had been meaning to get one made for two years.

I pulled up to where he was standing, van already stocked for this exact job. The 2002 Windstar takes a remote head key, three buttons, CR2032 battery, and I had the right blank with me. I decoded the door lock, cut a replacement blade on-site, and ran the programming sequence through the OBD port. The immobilizer system on this generation has a timed security delay built into the process, which is just Ford doing Ford things. You wait it out, you don't rush it.

He watched the whole job from the curb. When the van started on the first turn, he looked at the key like he expected something to go wrong.

Nothing went wrong. He asked about a spare on the spot. Smart call.

How long does a 2002 Ford Windstar key replacement take?▼

The immobilizer system on this generation has a built-in security delay that runs during the programming cycle. That's a Ford design, not something a locksmith or dealer can skip. If you have at least one working key and just need a spare added, figure 20 to 30 minutes on-site including the wait.
