2003 Ford Windstar Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A couple near the Montalvo neighborhood in Ventura called me on a Friday night around 9pm. They had been out and came back to their 2003 Ford Windstar just sitting there refusing to start. The key would turn, the engine would crank for a second, and then nothing. The anti-theft light on the dash was blinking like a heartbeat.
She told me on the phone that the remote buttons had been dead for a while, maybe months. They had just been using the blade to unlock and start it. That part still worked until tonight.
I was about 15 minutes out. When I got there, I checked the remote head key, FCC ID OUCD6000022, and the H75 blade was worn down pretty good. The transponder chip inside was still reading, but barely. The PATS transceiver ring around the ignition column was getting an intermittent read, which is why it would sometimes crank and sometimes refuse.
Cut a fresh H75 blade on a new 3-button remote head shell, dropped in a CR2032, programmed the 4D63 transponder through the OBD port, and paired the remote. The anti-theft light did its normal prove-out and went solid, then off. Engine caught on the first turn.
She clicked the lock button from about 20 feet away and just watched the lights flash. Said she forgot the remote even did that.
They drove home that Friday night instead of leaving the van in a parking lot until Monday.
