1995 Hyundai Sonata
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How does mobile key replacement work for a car this old?

You call, give me the year, make, model, and ideally the VIN. I confirm the correct key blank for your Sonata, give you a price, and come to wherever you are. On arrival I either duplicate your existing key or decode the lock if you have no key at all. The blade gets cut in the van, tested in the lock and ignition, and handed to you. The whole thing takes roughly fifteen to twenty minutes once I am there.

Q: What do I need to have ready when you show up?

Just the car, a valid photo ID, and your registration or title to confirm ownership. I pull the VIN from the dashboard or door jamb to verify the key specs. That is it. Three things and we are good to go.

Q: I have a spare key but it is worn down and getting hard to turn. Can you make a new one from a worn key?

Yes, but a worn key is not a reliable template. On a car this age, the key and the locks have both seen thirty years of use. If I duplicate a worn key, I am duplicating the wear along with it, and the copy may work in some locks but not others, or it may feel sloppy in the ignition. The better move is to decode the lock or look up the original key code if it is on record.

Q: My 1995 Sonata key turns in the door but not in the ignition. Do I need a new key or is it the ignition cylinder?

Both are possible, and the key is the cheaper thing to rule out first. If the key is worn, it may have just enough profile left to nudge a door tumbler but not enough to catch the tighter tolerances inside an ignition cylinder. Try this: if a freshly cut replacement key also refuses to turn, the cylinder itself is likely the problem, either worn tumblers or a binding mechanism from age. On a 1995 Sonata, that is a real possibility.

1995 Hyundai Sonata Metal Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from someone staying in the Las Positas area of Santa Barbara. She was out here visiting, had a 1995 Hyundai Sonata, and had managed to lose her only key somewhere between the parking lot and wherever she had been that afternoon. No spare back home. Just a car she could not get into and could not start.

She had already called a dealer. They wanted her to tow it in and come back during regular service hours. She did not have a tow budget and she did not have a spare day.

I drove out to her. The Sonata was sitting in the lot, locked, going nowhere. I decoded the lock on site, cut a replacement blade in the van, and had her in the car and driving inside of about twenty minutes. She stood there watching the whole thing happen next to her car, which I think surprised her. She expected something more complicated.

The dealer comparison came up after the fact, almost as an aside. She had figured on a tow plus a wait plus whatever they were going to charge. What she got instead was a key in her hand the same evening, for a fraction of that.

That is the whole job on a car like this. No mysteries. Just a cut that works.

Hyundai Sonata Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do I need to bring my 1995 Hyundai Sonata somewhere for a key replacement?▼

No. I come to you. Wherever the car is sitting in or around the Las Positas area of Santa Barbara, that is where the work happens. There is no reason to tow a 1995 Sonata to a dealer for a key. The job requires a key blank and a cutter, both of which travel in my van. If you are locked out, I can decode the lock and cut a key on site.
