A guy in Ventura, over in the College Area, called me from the parking lot of his apartment building. He had a 2002 Hyundai Sonata and exactly zero working keys. Before cutting, I fished the broken blade fragment out of the ignition with a small extractor. It came out in one piece. Good sign that the wafers inside were not damaged.
New key slid into the ignition, turned clean, car started. Then I tested the door lock and the trunk. Everything matched. Total time on site was maybe twenty minutes, and most of that was the decode and double-checking my depth reads.
He just sat on the curb watching, like he expected it to be harder than that. No tow truck, no dealer wait, no appointment two weeks out.
