2009 Hyundai Sonata Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Got a call from a woman parked near the Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center in Oxnard. Her 2009 Hyundai Sonata had one key left, and the flip housing was cracked right at the pivot. The blade wobbled when she folded it. She had been nursing it for weeks, worried it would snap mid-turn in the ignition.
She told me the dealer wanted her to bring the car in and quoted her a number that made her put it off. Her coworker had used me on a different car and passed my number along.
I met her in the lot. The Sonata's immobilizer reads the ID46 chip through the steering column antenna, and the PIN pulls through OBD on the Smartbox diagnostic port. Her car's PCF7936 handshake was clean, no fault codes stored in the immobilizer module. Just a key that was physically falling apart.
I cut a new HYN14R blade on a fresh flip shell, cloned the ID46 transponder, and tested ignition start three times cold. Then I recased her original chip into a second new housing so she had a backup that wasn't held together by hope. Both keys turning clean, both starting the car, folding and unfolding without that awful wiggle.
She just kept opening and closing the new key like she forgot what a solid hinge felt like. Whole thing took about 25 minutes in the parking lot.
