2013 Hyundai Sonata
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long does the programming take once you are at my car?

For a spare when you already have a working key, figure 20 to 30 minutes start to finish including cutting the emergency blade. If all keys are lost, add time for the security system access sequence before programming is allowed. That wait is built into the vehicle and there is no way around it. Either way, the whole job is a single visit, done on site, and your Sonata leaves with a working key.

Q: Can you get here faster than the dealer can get me a key?

Not even close, the dealer is not in the same conversation. I come to your car the same day. Dealers are booking key appointments days out, and Hyundai fob back-orders have left some owners waiting weeks before the parts even arrive. Then add tow costs if the car is not driveable. I carry blanks for the 2013 Sonata on every call and do the whole job where the car sits.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it for me?

Possibly, but with a catch. The fob has to match the factory spec for the 2013 Sonata exactly, meaning the correct frequency and configuration for this vehicle. A lot of the generic or off-brand fobs sold online look identical and still will not register properly because the internal hardware is not a true match.

Q: My Sonata starts fine but the fob buttons stopped working. Is the immobilizer going bad?

If the car starts, the vehicle security system is reading the fob just fine. The remote functions and the start system are separate. What you are describing is a remote signal issue, not a security issue. Start with the battery. The CR2032 in this fob can drop low enough to kill the remote range while still having just enough output for the start function. Swap the battery first.

2013 Hyundai Sonata Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Windsor North and River Ridge are the kinds of neighborhoods where parking is wherever you can find it, and on a weekday afternoon, that can mean a spot three blocks from your front door.

A Sonata owner over there texted me after work. She had her fob in her hand and the car was sitting at the curb, completely locked and unresponsive. The fob had quit, no warning, just stopped one day. She had already tried a new battery at home, so I knew walking in that this was not going to be a two-minute fix.

When I got there I opened the fob and confirmed the battery was seated right. It was. I put my programmer on the OBD port and pulled up the vehicle security system to check what was registered. There was one key in memory, her original. I cleared the module, registered a fresh fob built to match her factory spec, and had her walk the car with me while we tested every button and both door handles.

The car had been sitting there all afternoon. It drove away about forty minutes after I parked behind it.

She mentioned she had called the dealer first. They quoted her a wait for an appointment and a parts order. I was already in the next block before she said the word "tow."

Hyundai Sonata Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What if I need a Hyundai key after hours or on the weekend?▼

Call me directly. Hyundai dealer service departments typically run Monday through Friday, and Saturday hours are limited at most locations. Sunday is a closed door almost everywhere. If your Sonata is sitting in a parking lot in Windsor North at 9 p.m. on a Saturday, waiting until Monday morning for a dealer appointment is not a real option, especially if it is your only key. I work nights and weekends because that is exactly when these situations happen.
