Guy got off work, walked to the park and ride near Proctor Street Plaza in Oxnard, and his 2015 Sonata was dead to him. Pressed the fob, nothing. Held it flat against the start button where the backup antenna coil sits, still nothing. The CR2032 had drained while the car sat all day in the sun.

I got to his spot in about 35 minutes. Once I had the door open, I connected my IM608 to the OBD port and pulled diagnostics on the smart key module. Both his fobs were still registered in the system, but the dead battery had created a communication fault code that the backup hold-to-start procedure could not clear on its own. The immobilizer module, the SMARTRA unit on the steering column, was not seeing the Hitag 2 transponder signal at all.
Fresh CR2032 in the SY5HMFNA04, fault code cleared through the diagnostic port, and I cycled every function: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, proximity detection at the door handles, and push-button start. All clean. Gave him a spare CR2032 for the glovebox.
He drove home that evening. His Sonata never left the parking space he pulled into that morning.
