Over near St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, a guy with a 2010 Sonata GLS had been fighting his ignition for about three weeks. Some mornings it turned fine. Other mornings he sat in the parking lot working the key back and forth for five minutes before the cylinder would rotate. He said he started leaving early for work just to budget time for it.

Before I touched anything mechanical, I backed up the immobilizer data through the ACDP on the 93C46 EEPROM. Then I decoded the existing lock, swapped the three worn wafers, and cut a fresh HYN14R blade matched to the repaired cylinder with the ID46 chip cloned from his original. Quick OBD procedure through the 16-pin port to confirm transponder recognition, and the SMARTRA module accepted it on the first pass.
He watched me lay the old wafers next to the new ones on the hood. You could see the wear with your bare eyes. The ignition turns smooth now, key slides in without any resistance. He kept every part that was still good and only replaced what was actually broken.
