2022 Hyundai Sonata Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
La Conchita is a small stretch right off the 101, not much between you and the ocean. A guy had parked his 2022 Sonata at the commuter lot there that morning and taken a ride up the coast. By afternoon, the fob was dead. Completely dead. Not weak, not intermittent. Nothing.
He tried holding it against the start button the way someone on a forum told him to. The dash lit up with a key-not-detected warning and that was it. He called me before he called a tow truck, which was the right move.
I was there in under 40 minutes. Popped the fob and the CR2032 measured zero. Replaced it, confirmed the contact plate was flat and clean, and the car woke right up on the first press. No fault codes, no communication error stored, nothing that needed a reset. The immobilizer had never dropped the key from memory. It just had no battery signal to respond to.
He asked if the fob itself might be failing, since it died so fast. I checked the manufacture date on the fob housing. Original battery, still in there from the factory. Three years of sitting and commuting on a factory-installed cell is about right.
I left him a spare CR2032 for the console and showed him the notch on the fob seam so he could swap it himself next time without bending the contact. He was on the road in about 20 minutes. No tow, no dealer appointment, no waiting until Thursday.
