A guy in Ventura, over in the Midtown neighborhood, had just picked up a 2004 Hyundai Sonata off Craigslist. Clean car, fair price, one key. The seller told him to get a spare on his own time. He figured a Hyundai key would be cheap. The dealer corrected that assumption in a hurry.

I met him at his place and pulled the working key to read the Philips PCF7936 chip through my VVDI2. Cloned the transponder data onto a fresh HYN14R blank so the immobilizer accepted it without needing a full system reset or PIN extraction from the Smartra module. Cut the blade on my Condor, tested the start, done.
He left with two working keys for way less than the dealer wanted for one. That spare also means his next key situation is an add-a-key instead of all-keys-lost. On these Sonatas, the difference between those two jobs is significant because AKL requires pulling the security PIN from the Smartra unit, sometimes through bench work on the immobilizer box itself. Getting a spare now is the cheapest insurance against an expensive emergency later.
