Got a call from a guy at Planet Fitness off Victoria in the Montalvo neighborhood in Ventura. His 2000 Hyundai Sonata had been fighting him every morning for about three weeks. Some days the key turned clean, other days he sat in the parking lot working it back and forth for five minutes straight before the ignition would rotate.

So I decoded the lock with my Lishi HY15, swapped the three worn wafers with fresh ones from my kit, and cut a brand new key matched to the repaired cylinder. Since the 2000 Sonata has no transponder or immobilizer, there was zero programming involved. Key goes in, key turns, engine starts.
I showed him the old wafers on my palm. Two were visibly rounded off, one had a hairline crack. He just nodded and said, "That's why it felt like sandpaper."
He kept his original ignition, got a smooth-turning cylinder, and paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted for parts he never needed.
