I got a call on a Thursday night from a guy up on the Riviera in Santa Barbara. He had just come back from a client dinner at one of the restaurants downtown, and somewhere between the valet and the coat check he realized his jacket was gone. Keys inside it. I pulled out my tools, decoded the lock cylinder on the driver door, cut a new key on site, and had the door open inside of a few minutes. Turned it in the ignition, started right up.
He looked a little relieved, a little embarrassed that he had waited so long to get a spare made. I cut him a second key while I was there so he would have one to keep at home.
The whole job was done before lunch. He mentioned the dealer had told him it would take until the following week to source anything and get him scheduled. He drove to work that afternoon.
