Got a call from a woman near Alice Keck Park Memorial Garden in Santa Barbara. She had a 2009 Infiniti M45, one smart key, and it had just stopped being recognized by the car. Dashboard read "KEY ID INCORRECT" and the push-button start was dead.

I drove out that evening. Her CWTWBU735 fob looked fine on the outside. I opened it up on her hood and the CR2032 was corroded around one terminal. Not dramatic, just enough green crust to kill the signal. Cleaned the contact, dropped in a fresh CR2032, and tested proximity detection at each door handle. Nothing.
So the battery was part of it, but the fob's registration with the BCM had dropped. I plugged into the OBD port, connected to the Body Control Module, ran the Intelligent Key relearn procedure through the NATS system, and re-registered her existing fob. Then I cut a fresh emergency insert blade on my machine as a backup since hers was worn down to almost nothing.
Walked every door, tested the trunk release, cycled the push-button start three times. All clean. She watched the whole thing from a park bench ten feet away, reading something on her phone like it was no big deal. That is the best kind of reaction.
Whole thing took about 35 minutes. A fraction of what the dealer wanted, no tow, no waiting around for days.
