I was parked near the Funk Zone finishing up a late afternoon call when my phone rang. A woman staying at a rental property off Yanonali had been in Santa Barbara on a work trip. She'd flown in, picked up her own car from long-term parking somewhere out of town, and driven down the coast. By the time she called me, her only M45 fob had stopped doing anything. I programmed a new fob to her vehicle, cut the emergency blade to match her lock, tested every button, walked all four doors, confirmed the start function, and handed it over. She had a working key before she'd had time to finish looking up tow companies online.
The dealer would have been a tow bill plus a day of waiting plus whatever they charged for the key itself. She paid a fraction of that, in the parking lot, same evening.
