A landscape photographer near Hendry's Beach in Santa Barbara flagged me down through a referral. He had been shooting along the bluffs, came back to his 2004 Infiniti M45 in the dirt pullout, and the key was gone. Fell out of his vest pocket somewhere on the trail. No spare, no backup, car sitting there with no way to move it.
He had already called around. One locksmith suggested drilling out the door cylinder and replacing it. Another told him to tow it to the nearest Infiniti dealer, which would have been a long ride and a long wait for a VIN-cut key order.
I used my NI04 Lishi to decode his driver-side lock. It reads each wafer position in the Nissan/Infiniti NSN14 keyway without scratching or damaging anything inside the cylinder. Took about ten minutes to pull the full cut depths. From there, I cut a fresh NSN14 blade, set the 4D60 transponder chip, and ran the all-keys-lost procedure through the OBD-II port to register it with the NATS5 module.
His door lock, ignition, and trunk all work with the new key like nothing happened. No drilling. No cylinder swap. The car looked exactly the same as when I showed up, just with a working key in the ignition.
He kept looking back at the lock like he expected to see tool marks. There were none.
