A customer called from an underground parking garage in Wildwood Canyon around 10pm. His only fob was gone. He'd checked his pockets, the elevator, the stairwell, retraced twice. Nothing.
He didn't know his VIN, didn't have his registration on him, and was already looking up tow companies just to get the NX somewhere safe. He sounded pretty wound up.
I walked him through it on the phone. Told him to check the base of the windshield, driver's side. He found the VIN. Then I had him pull up his insurance app, and the registration was right there. With that VIN I already knew his key type, confirmed the 89904-30A30 part number, and prepped the correct HYQ14FBA fob and H-chip before I even left.
Under the garage lights I connected through OBD-II, ran the smart key ECU initialization on board 281451-0090, generated the transponder with my VVDI Key Tool, and registered the new fob. The old missing key got erased from memory so it can't start the car. Cut the emergency insert blade on site too.
The whole thing, including the drive out to Thousand Oaks, took about 45 minutes. He sat on a concrete bollard watching most of it, and the moment the push-button start fired up, he just exhaled and stared at the dash for a second like he didn't trust it yet.
He drove home that night. The dealer was closed, would have needed a tow, and would have taken days. His VIN told me everything before I arrived.
