2025 Lexus NX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Downtown Ventura, middle of a Tuesday. A woman called me from the parking structure off California Street. She had her 2025 Lexus NX, one fob, and the car was giving her a key-not-detected warning every third or fourth start attempt. Sometimes it would clear and start fine. Sometimes she'd be sitting there pressing the start button and getting nothing. She'd been dealing with it for two weeks.
She'd already been to the dealer. They told her the fob was probably failing and quoted her a number she described only as "a lot" to replace and program a new one. She wanted a second opinion before she committed to it.
I met her in the structure. First thing I did was open the fob. The CR2032 was original, still reading voltage, but the positive contact tab had a slight outward bow on it, just enough that the battery was making intermittent contact when the fob got jostled. Classic. Straightened the tab, reseated the battery, closed the housing.
Then I walked every function: door handle touch unlock on both sides, the start button, lock, unlock, and the other two buttons. Ran it through six start cycles. Not a single fault.
She asked me if I was sure that was it. I told her to drive it for a week and call me if it came back. It didn't come back.
The dealer wasn't wrong that the fob could eventually fail. They were just ready to skip the ten-minute diagnostic and go straight to the sale. Sometimes the small fix is the real fix.
