Met a guy at Ventura Harbor Village whose NX wouldn't see his HYQ14FLC fob. Started that morning. Push button just blinked orange, no start.
He'd already tried the emergency blade slot under the armrest. Nothing. Called Lexus of Oxnard and they quoted overnight for ordering, then programming the next afternoon. Plus towing since he couldn't drive it in.
I checked his fob first. CR2032 tested at 3.1V, solid. Connected my Autel IM608 to the OBD port and pulled codes. B279A: Smart Key Transmitter Low Battery. But we just tested it at full voltage.
Turns out the 2023 NX tracks battery voltage history. Once it logs a low battery event, it stays suspicious of that fob until you clear the code. Even with a fresh battery, the ECU was ignoring his key.
Cleared B279A through the diagnostic port. Instant fix. Push button went from orange blink to green ready. The fob locked, unlocked, popped the hatch, everything normal again.
Twenty minutes in his marina parking spot. He asked what the dealer would have done. Same thing, clear the code. But they'd have his car all day and probably push a new fob anyway. We just fixed what was actually broken.
