2019 Lexus NX Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Over near Sapwi Trails Community Park in Thousand Oaks, a woman flagged me down in her own driveway. Her 2019 Lexus NX was sitting there locked and she was holding her only smart key in two pieces.
The HYQ14FBA fob had cracked along the seam. Then the emergency insert blade snapped off inside the driver's door lock when she tried manual entry. Fob housing in one hand, broken blade stuck in the cylinder. Zero working keys.
I pulled the blade fragment out first and decoded her lock so I could cut fresh inserts. Then I opened the cracked fob on the hood where she could see everything. The H-chip (8A) transponder board inside was still intact. That matters because it meant I could read the transponder data through my VVDI2 off the existing chip instead of running a full smart key computer reset, which adds time and steps.
I rebuilt her key into a new OEM-spec shell, transferred the salvaged board and chip, and cut two new emergency blades. Tested all four buttons, walk-away lock, door handle proximity on both sides, and push-button start.
She went from zero working keys to two in about 45 minutes. The whole thing happened on her driveway. No tow, no dealer wait. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a number that made her wince, and this was a good chunk less than that.
If your fob is cracked or broken, bring it. A salvageable chip saves real time and money.
