Over in the Avenue neighborhood in Ventura, a guy called me from a marina parking area. He had one fob for his 2020 Lexus NX, bought the car used, and that single fob was gone. Somewhere between the dock and the lot it just vanished. He spent half an hour retracing his steps, checking jacket pockets, looking under cars. Nothing.

Then I plugged into OBD, ran the all-keys-lost procedure for the smart key system, which wipes whatever old key data is stored in the immobilizer ECU and registers a new HYQ14FBA fob from scratch. Board number 281451-2110, H-8A chip, 4-button proximity.
The part most people don't see is the testing loop after programming. Walk every door handle for proximity unlock, check the touch-lock sensor on each handle, trunk release, push-button start from both front seats. If even one zone reads weak, I want to catch it before I leave.
Lock decode to engine running was about 50 minutes. He drove out of that same lot. The dealer route would have meant a tow plus a multi-day wait for a fob order, all at a price that makes people wince. This was a fraction of that, done on the spot.
