I got a call from a driver parked near Waverly Heights in Thousand Oaks. He had a 2018 Lexus NX and a problem that sounded dramatic over the phone: his fob stopped unlocking the car, the driver door handle touch sensor was doing nothing, and he was convinced the whole smart key system had failed.

He had already called the dealer. They told him to bring it in, said it would need a diagnostic appointment, and gave him a wait time of several days out. He was looking at towing it in because he did not feel comfortable driving with what he thought was a failing security system.
It was a battery seat. Took about ten minutes on site. He did not need a new fob, did not need a dealer appointment, and definitely did not need a tow.
