Out past Dos Pueblos Canyon in Goleta, a guy was stuck at a campground dirt lot with a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer and zero keys. Push-to-start model. No ignition slot to work with, no spare hidden anywhere. He had already called around and everyone told him it was a dealer-only job plus a tow from the middle of nowhere.
I drove out there. The car was sitting at the far end of a packed-dirt pulloff, hood warm from the sun, completely locked out and dead to the world.
Push-to-start all-keys-lost on these Lancers means going through the ETACS module. Old key data has to be wiped before new fobs register. I pulled the OBD port, connected my ACDP, and read the ETACS data as a backup first. On some Mitsubishi ETACS boards you end up pulling the unit for bench work, but this one cooperated through OBD. Clean AKL reset.
His replacement smart key, part number 8637B885 with FCC ID OUC644M-KEY-N, took registration on the first pass. Four-button fob, emergency blade cut on site. The system saw it, the antenna ring picked it up, and the push-to-start fired the engine.
He just stood there listening to it idle like he expected it to stall.
That whole job happened in a dirt lot 35 minutes from the nearest dealer. No flatbed, no waiting room, no parts counter markup. Just the right tools in the right van.
