The 2012 Lancer was sitting in the lot with zero keys inside and a thief somewhere holding the original fob. His girlfriend called the dealer while they waited for the police. I connected through the diagnostic port, cleared the existing fob data out of the immobilizer, and registered two new fobs from scratch. Then I cut the emergency insert blade and tested both fobs on doors and ignition before I packed up.
He drove home that night with two working keys. The stolen fob is electronically dead now. Once the key memory is wiped, the old fob is just plastic.
The dealer comparison was almost an afterthought by then. He had his car, his new keys, and the peace of mind that the stolen one couldn't do anything. That's the part that mattered most to him.
