2013 Mitsubishi Lancer
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2013 Mitsubishi Lancer Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a guy on a side street just off the main drag in Old Town Goleta. His 2013 Lancer, the key had snapped. Half the blade was still inside the ignition cylinder, half of it was in his hand. He had already called another locksmith who gave him a phone quote for a full ignition replacement without even looking at the car.

I told him to sit tight.

When I got there he was standing outside leaning against the door like he was already mentally calculating a tow. The break was clean, right at the shoulder of the blade, which is actually the better scenario. A jagged mid-blade snap is messier to work with.

I used my Lishi tool, which fits Mitsubishi's keyway profile, to slide in alongside the stuck fragment and work it out without touching the wafer surfaces. No drilling, nothing damaged. The cylinder came out of that job exactly as it went in. Once the fragment was clear, I decoded the lock from the readings and cut a fresh blade on site.

Because this was a smart key setup, I ran the fob through OBD programming on the new blade assembly so everything worked together: the blade, the remote functions, the immobilizer enrollment. The whole sequence took about forty minutes on the street.

He asked what the other locksmith would have charged for a full cylinder swap. I told him it would have been a different kind of afternoon entirely. He just nodded and drove off.
