2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I was already heading toward Goleta on a different call when my phone went off. A guy over in Isla Vista, parking lot near the apartments, one key, gone. He had looked everywhere twice and was standing next to a locked Lancer with nowhere to be.
He was calm about it on the phone, which actually made it easier. No second key, no spare anywhere. Just the VIN on the windshield and his registration in his insurance app.
That VIN told me what I needed before I pulled up. I knew it was a four-button smart key system with a CR2032, so I came prepped with the right fob and the right cut blank already pulled. When I got there he was sitting on the curb under a streetlight, which I appreciated. Good lighting is good lighting.
The job was all-keys-lost, which on these Lancers means going through the diagnostic port to wipe the existing key memory and register fresh. No shortcut there. I cut the blade to match his lock, registered the new fob to the vehicle, ran through every button, confirmed the engine started and the key-not-detected warning was gone from the cluster.
He asked me why the dealer wanted two days and a tow just to do the same job. I told him they quote a tow because they want the car at the shop. I come to the car. He drove home that night. He saved a good chunk, and nobody had to drag a Lancer onto a flatbed at midnight for a key.
