Got a call from a guy in Oxnard, over near the Ventura Road shopping corridor. His 2003 Outlander was stuck in a covered parking spot behind his townhouse complex. A tow truck had already come and gone. Tight entrance, low overhang, and the spot was backed against a wall. The driver took one look and left.
The Outlander had one key left and it stopped turning the immobilizer. Dashboard security light would flash and the engine would crank but never catch. Classic ID46 chip failure on these first-gen Outlanders. The ETACS module sees the crank signal but never gets the transponder handshake, so fuel injection stays locked out.
I parked on the street and walked in with my bag. Read the immobilizer data through the OBD port with my VVDI2, pulled the ID46 crypto, and wrote a new PCF7936 chip to match. Cut a fresh MIT8 blade on the mobile machine right there in his parking spot. Then programmed his OUCG8D-525M-A remote so he had lock and unlock back too.
Whole thing took about 35 minutes. His car never moved an inch. He said the dealer had quoted him a visit plus a wait for parts, and he would have still needed the tow he already failed to get. I just walked in, fixed it, and walked back to the van.
