2015 Mitsubishi Outlander Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Near Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura, a guy's 2015 Outlander was sitting at a muffler shop with no working key. Another locksmith had already attempted the job and bailed. Left the ETACS module in a fault state that rejected any new key registration. Told the shop the module was fried and they'd need a dealer.

The shop called me.

I brought my ACDP bench tool because I already knew what this was going to be. When an OBD programming attempt gets interrupted mid-sequence on these third-generation Outlanders, the ETACS can lock itself into a state where it won't accept new key data. The module isn't bad. It's just stuck.

I pulled the ETACS, read the EEPROM data off the board, cleared the fault codes, and rebuilt the key registration from scratch. His smart key, the 4-button OUC644M-KEY-N with part number 8637B885, registered on the first clean attempt after the reset.

Then I walked everything: push-button start, all four door handles for proximity unlock, lock button on each handle, trunk release, panic. All responding. The muffler shop guys watched the whole process on the hood. I walked them through what went wrong so they'd know if it came up again with another customer.

About 75 minutes total, including module pull and reinstall. A dealer flatbed and multi-day wait would have cost him a lot more, and he still would have been without his car all week.

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS License LCO 6792) and carries full insurance. We're also NASTF Vehicle Security Professional certified, which gives us authorized access to Mitsubishi's security PINs and programming protocols. The 2015 Outlander uses an ETACS-integrated immobilizer that requires proper credentials and tooling. Without NASTF registration, a locksmith can't pull the security data needed to register a new smart key on these. Not everyone has it, and that's usually why the first guy fails.
