Out on The Avenue in Ventura, a guy called me from a gas station. He had his 2014 Outlander running, did not want to shut it off, and was staring at his fob like it had personally wronged him. The touch unlock on the driver door had been hit or miss for two weeks. That morning it stopped responding entirely. Passenger side still worked. Start button still saw the fob. Then I walked the car. Driver door touch unlock: back. Passenger: still good. All four buttons working. Start button, clean.

He still wanted the second fob programmed, which was a separate job. We did that too, right there, so he had a working spare for the first time since he bought it used.

The replacement fob he bought online needed professional equipment to pair it to the car's system. That part he had not expected.
