Friday night near Ventura City Hall, a couple came out of the bowling alley and their 2019 Outlander was completely dead to the fob. No lock, no unlock, no start button response. They figured the car was done for the weekend and almost called a rideshare home.
One of them searched "Mitsubishi locksmith" and got me on the phone. I was about 15 minutes out.
I keep MIT11 blade blanks, OUC644M-KEY-N smart fob housings, ID46 chips, and CR2032 cells sorted in labeled drawers behind my seat. Nothing gets ordered when you call. It's already in the van.
Their fob had a CR2032 that tested at 1.8 volts, way below the 3-volt spec. The shell was also cracked along the seam near the emergency key slot, which had let enough moisture in to corrode one of the battery contacts on the board inside. I swapped the guts into a fresh housing, cleaned the contact points, dropped in a new CR2032, and re-paired the fob through the Outlander's ETACS module using my diagnostic setup.
Walked every button. Lock, unlock, hatch, panic. Tested proximity detection at both front doors and the start button. All clean on the first pass.
They drove home that night. The dealer route would have meant leaving a Mitsubishi in a bowling alley parking lot all weekend and paying a good chunk more once parts and labor came through. When everything is stocked, a call at 10 PM on a Friday works exactly like a call at 10 AM on a Tuesday.
