A temp worker called me at 7 in the morning from a staffing agency lot over in Grant Park, Ventura. Her 2016 Outlander's remote head key had cracked apart overnight. The blade was loose in the shell, wiggling enough that it would not turn the ignition cylinder. She needed to be at a job site by 8 or the assignment went to somebody else.
I got to her in about 20 minutes.
She was sitting on the curb holding the two halves of the fob together with a rubber band. It had been cracked for a while and she had been nursing it. The board inside, the one carrying the ID46 HITAG2 transponder, was fine. The shell had just finally given up.
I decoded her lock with a MIT11 Lishi, cut a fresh blade, and built a new remote head key. Programmed it through OBD using the Mitsubishi immobilizer protocol. The whole hands-on part took about 25 minutes. Four buttons, all tested on every door and the hatch.
She pulled out of that lot at 7:48. Did not say much, just a quick nod and she was gone.
A dealer would have meant a tow, a wait for parts, and a missed day of work she flat out told me she could not afford. This was a fraction of that and done on the spot.
