Passive handle detection uses low-frequency antennas in the door handles, and those can be sensitive to a few things: a weak fob battery being the first one to rule out, water intrusion around the handle area, and in some cases a handle sensor that's starting to go. Owners on forums have also noted that certain aftermarket window tint films and aftermarket accessories near the door can interfere with the signal. Start with the CR2032. If that doesn't bring it back, the issue is most likely on the vehicle side, not the fob, and I can diagnose it on site.
